Questions & answers
Here you will find answers to the most common questions about our Printen and ordering in our shop. Can’t find your question? We will be happy to help you personally.
All about Printen
What are Aachener Printen?
Printen are Aachen’s best-known baked speciality: rich and spicy, with a tradition going back centuries. The name comes from pressing – the dough used to be pressed into carved wooden moulds (“print” in English and Dutch). At Nobis we have been baking Printen since 1858 to recipes handed down in the family.
What does “g.g.A.” on the pack mean?
“Aachener Printen” is a protected geographical indication of the EU (PGI, in German “g.g.A.”). Our Printen may carry this name because they are made in Aachen to our recipe and are regularly checked by independent inspectors.
What is the difference between traditional Printen and soft Printen?
Both are made from the same dough. Traditional Printen are the original form: rich, spicy and firm. Soft Printen spend a short time in a climate chamber after baking, absorb moisture there and are then dipped completely in chocolate – which keeps them soft and moist.
Shelf life & storage
How long do Printen keep?
We use no preservatives at all – our specialities are meant to be enjoyed fresh. The exact best-before date is printed on every pack. Aachener Domspitzen keep for up to 6 weeks, Baumkuchen corners for up to 4 weeks, and our butter Poschweck for at least ten days.
How should I store Printen?
Stored in a dry place, traditional Printen stay nice and crunchy. If you prefer them softer, keep them in a tin in a cool place – with a little moisture they soften over time.
My Printen are too hard – what can I do?
Put half an apple in the tin. The Printen absorb the moisture and soon become nice and soft.
Ingredients & diet
Where can I find ingredients and allergens?
Ingredients, allergens and nutritional values are listed for every product on its page in our shop, in the product description.
Are Nobis Printen vegan?
Our original Printen recipe has always been vegan. You will find all vegan products together in the category “Vegan Printen”. Printen with milk chocolate or white chocolate are not vegan.
Are Nobis Printen lactose-free?
Many of our Printen contain no milk and are therefore naturally lactose-free – all vegan Printen, for example. You can tell from the allergen information on the product page: if it says “milk (including lactose)”, the product contains lactose. Some varieties may contain traces of milk; this is stated there as well.
What chocolate do you use?
We only use Fairtrade-certified chocolate with up to 70 % cocoa. Our sugar comes straight from our region.
Ordering & payment
How can I pay?
With PayPal (including “Pay Later”), credit or debit card, Google Pay and Apple Pay (on Apple devices). Within Germany you can also pay by invoice from your second order onwards.
Do I need a customer account?
No, you can also order without an account. With a customer account you can see your orders and don’t have to enter your addresses every time.
When are Stollen, Advent calendars and Christmas Printen available?
Our Christmas specialities such as butter Christstollen, Printen Advent calendars, Printen figures and tree decorations are available every year from mid-October. In the shop you can see for each item from when it can be ordered.
Large orders or gifts for customers and employees?
For companies we also pack gifts with your logo and, if you wish, send them individually to many addresses – an Excel list is all we need. Find out more under “Corporate gifts”.
Shipping & delivery
How much is shipping?
Within Germany we ship with DHL for €5.90. From an order value of €35 to one delivery address you only pay half, from €70 shipping is free. We ship abroad with UPS; the cost depends on the country and weight (see shipping information).
When should I order so that everything arrives in time?
We bake by hand and keep only small stocks. Especially before Christmas, please order in good time: about 3 weeks before the desired arrival date in Germany and Europe, about 4 weeks for shipping outside Europe. Within Germany your parcel usually arrives within 2 to 5 working days; abroad it may take longer.
Can I choose a preferred shipping date?
Yes. At checkout, under “Preferred shipping date”, choose “Ship later” and pick a date – for example so that the Printen arrive in time for the holidays. The date is a request, not a firm commitment.
Can I send the Printen directly to someone else?
Yes, of course. At checkout, choose “To a different address” for the delivery address. A Packstation or post office is also possible, but not a PO box. The invoice is then not included in the parcel but sent to you by email.
Can I add a greeting card?
Yes. In the shopping cart you can add a greeting card with your personal message (up to 25 words) for €5.00 – we will enclose it in the parcel.
Do you deliver abroad?
Yes, we ship to any address worldwide with UPS. Customs duties and taxes that may be due in the recipient’s country are not included in the shipping costs. For the USA and the United Kingdom, a surcharge for the import formalities is already included in the shipping costs shown.
